SRF Summit
Building a Resilient Running Body

The Stromlo Running Festival (SRF), in collaboration with its Education Partner, University of Canberra (UC),  will host the inaugural SRF Summit in July. Themed “Building a Resilient Running Body,” the Summit is designed for runners of all abilities and aims to provide practical evidence-based information to the SRF community.

The Summit will be held on Wednesday, 24 July, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Inspire Centre, Building 25, UC. The event will be free of charge and limited tickets available, making registration essential.

The SRF Summit will provide insights from UC’s experts on key topics including nutrition, heat acclimation, and injury prevention. This event is part of SRF and UC’s shared commitment to fostering sport, resilience, and wellness within the community.

The Summit represents a unique opportunity to connect runners with academic research and expert advice. “With an overwhelming abundance of content available to our community, we are pleased to provide verified, research-based information to our community to help them make informed training choices ahead of their event this November,” said Mel Bingley, Race Director at SRF. “We are thrilled to collaborate with the University of Canberra to host this unique summit, blending academic insights with practical advice to empower our running community.”

Presenter Dr. Jaquelin Bousie said, “This event is a fantastic platform to link in with the Canberra running community and share our latest research and practical tips to help runners of all levels enhance their performance and prevent injuries.”

A highlight of the evening will be a personal keynote from marathon champion and SRF co-founder Robert de Castella, who will share his insights on training the mind and body to avoid ‘hitting the wall’ during a run. “From winning a marathon World Championship and setting World Records to coaching young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women to run, endure, and enjoy their first marathon, I’ve experienced it all. Join me as I share my knowledge, tips, and some incredibly inspiring stories with you,” says Rob.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the experts and connect over light refreshments.

A recording of the event will be shared after.
