A new marathon for Canberra

Inaugural SRF marathon doubles down on the challenge and doubles up on the views

Brace yourselves, Canberra! The inaugural SRF Marathon is set to debut this November, replacing the beloved 50km ultra-marathon. While bidding farewell to the ultra was bittersweet, unknown local civil work timelines and operational challenges necessitated its retirement. However, from its ashes rises a new challenge that promises to push the boundaries of endurance and determination.

Already affectionally dubbed “Canberra’s hardest marathon,” the SRF Marathon is poised to double the challenge with over 1,500 meters of vertical climb—thanks to the double summit of “The Mother,” also known as Mt. Stromlo.

Set against the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes, this challenging course will test the mettle of even the most seasoned runners. Yet, it’s precisely this blend of challenge and triumph that will make conquering the SRF Marathon an unforgettable achievement.

One of the most enticing aspects of the SRF Marathon is its generous 8-hour cut-off time. Unlike traditional marathons where the clock dictates the pace, runners can tackle this formidable course without the pressure of time constraints. It’s an opportunity for participants to embrace the journey, soak in the surroundings, and push their limits without the looming spectre of time.

Key highlights of the SRF Marathon include:

  • Over 1,500 meters of elevation gain, featuring a double summit of ‘The Mother’ aka Mt. Stromlo
  • Well-marked and supported tracks to guide runners every step of the way
  • A commemorative finisher’s medal, refreshing Zooper Dooper, and free event photos to immortalise the achievement
  • Certification by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and indexing by the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB)/ITRA, making it a coveted qualifier for the renowned Six Foot Track Marathon.

Prepare to embark on an epic journey through the rugged beauty of Stromlo Forest Park and challenge yourself like never before at the inaugural SRF Marathon.
